Tiger Woods calls it the best shot he’s hit as a tour player. From a bunker on the left side of the fairway at the end of the 2nd round (which was actually played on Saturday morning) during the 2002 PGA Championship at Hazeltine, Woods stuck a 3 iron from 205 yards, uphill and into a biting 20 mile per hour wind no less, to about 15 feet. This afternoon KARE-11 reporter/anchor Eric Perkins set out to re-create the shot for his weekly feature “Perk at Play.”
Hazeltine National Golf Club, one of the greatest golf courses in America, looks like it’s ready for the PGA Championship today. Granted, screws need to be tightened and nails need to be hammered on some of the buildings in the PGA Village, but the “pop-up” PGA city is just about complete. Next week thousands of spectators will walk the vast grounds of Hazeltine National following the world’s finest golfers.
Hazeltine Members Carl Horsch, Mark Knutson, Tim Andersen, Tom Ryan, Bob Leaf and Jim Ryan put their games together to earn Hazeltine a “five-peat” in the Twin Cities Senior Golf League. HNGC edged out golfers from Olympic Hills Golf Club in the final standings. All Hazeltine players scored 78 or better. Congratulations!
